When I was diagnosed with cancer, I knew in my heart that there was more to it than just a physical issue. I had been through a lot emotionally—going through a painful divorce, dealing with chronic stress, running my beauty business, and carrying unspoken burdens for years. It wasn’t until cancer that I started believing that unresolved emotional pain played a big role in physical illness.
But even with that belief, I didn’t think anything could surprise me.
I had already explored many forms of emotional and energy healing: like therapy, meditation, Reiki, acupuncture. So when my friend Amy told me about The Emotion Code, a healing method developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson, I was skeptical. I honestly thought, “What could this possibly teach me that I don’t already know?”
Boy, was I wrong.
What Is The Emotion Code?
For anyone who’s never heard of it, The Emotion Code is a simple yet powerful energy healing method designed to identify and release trapped emotions—unresolved emotional energies stored in the body. According to Dr. Nelson, these trapped emotions can block us from healing physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Think of trapped emotions as emotional baggage we carry—sometimes without realizing it. They might come from trauma, heartbreak, stress, or even inherited patterns passed down from our ancestors. Over time, these emotions can get “stuck” in the body, creating pain, fatigue, anxiety, and even illness.
The Emotion Code works by:
- Tapping into the subconscious mind using a technique called muscle testing
- Identifying specific trapped emotions that are causing disruption
- Using energy and intention to release those emotions from the body
The process is simple, non-invasive, and often produces results quickly.

Practitioners use muscle testing to ask the subconscious mind yes/no questions and quickly pinpoint which trapped emotion is affecting the body. Once identified, the emotion can be released using magnetic energy and intention—helping to restore emotional and physical balance.
When I Became a Believer
My turning point came during a particularly stressful time while I was working tirelessly a few weeks before the 2025 Annie Appleseed conference. On top of the emotional and mental load, I was experiencing sharp pain in my lower back and neck— that just wouldn’t go away.
Then something unexpected and heartbreaking happened.
One morning drive, I witnessed a cat get hit by a car. I rushed to help and tried to get the poor animal to Animal Control. Sadly, the cat passed away just minutes before I arrived. The grief hit me hard—and almost immediately afterward, I started feeling a sharp pain in my lung.
I learned that grief and sadness is often associated with the lungs in East Asian Medicine. That moment was too much to ignore. I had already started reading The Emotion Code, but I knew I needed help navigating it more deeply. I reached out to a certified practitioner in my area named Patty, and scheduled a session with her immediately.
During that session, she uncovered and released several trapped emotions that were contributing to both my stress and the sudden grief. Within a short time, the pain in my lung subsided dramatically as well as my neck and back.
It was not just a coincidence. It was a release.

A Foundational Tool for Healing
That experience shifted everything for me. I went from a skeptic to a firm believer in the power of The Emotion Code.
Now, I recommend it to everyone—especially those dealing with chronic illness or cancer. In my opinion, it should be part of the foundation for any healing journey.
It doesn’t replace medical treatment or other therapies, but it complements them in a profound way. It gives your body the emotional clarity and space it needs to begin truly healing from the inside out.
My Final Thoughts
If you’ve tried everything and still feel stuck—emotionally or physically—don’t discount the power of what’s going on beneath the surface. Sometimes the pain we’re feeling isn’t “new” at all. It’s just something old that’s still waiting to be released.
Be open. Be curious. The Emotion Code taught me that healing doesn’t always come in the form you expect—but it does come when you’re willing to look within.
If you’re walking through illness, heartbreak, or chronic pain, I invite you to explore this powerful tool. You just might find, as I did, that the emotional weight you’ve been carrying can be released—and when it is, your body can finally begin to heal.
